About the Design
The Lion of Judah of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, gilded in bronze by a French sculptor for the 1930 coronation of Hailé Selassie - It was taken from Ethiopia by the Italians in 1935 and placed in Rome until it returned to Addis Ababa in the 1960s. Hailé Selassie was the last Ethiopian Monarch of a long hereditary line of royalty. His name, Hailé - "Power of," and Selassie, "Trinity" - Translates into "Power of the Trinity."
